Water might be the source of our vitality, however; for buildings too much of it can be cause for its decay. Water decays building materials and ruins paint, plaster and causes it to fall off. This dampening of walls or water infiltrating inside the building blocks of any structure is called water ingress. There are many causes for water ingress and according to water ingress reports usually they are the cause of old buildings to deteriorate and break down. Whether it is a small leaky pipe or a broken water pipe gushing out, water ingress can be harmful to buildings. Humidity causes dampness in walls but there are coating materials that prevent that, however if there is a source of water that has leaked for instance a bursted pipe inside the walls, it needs to be isolated and repaired before it ruins the wall in which it has started leaking. Water ingress reports compiled and released by private consulting groups along with other government funded organizations claim that most water ingress cases are cause by cases of faulty plumbings, burst pipes, rain drain clogs and more.

Here is the list of damage that is caused due to water ingress to buildings:

Cracking plaster and paint falling off of walls:

When the wall absorbs as much water as it can sooner or later it exceeds the absorption limit of the building material and the water shows off on the wall exterior. After a while the paint cracks and falls off. After a while the plaster becomes weak and cracks, if not cared for the plaster falls off revealing the concrete. If the water leak is not taken care off soon enough or the water leak is very small mold starts to form on the walls as well.

Swollen wooden floor boards:

Water and wood never go along, after absorbing water the wood swells and breaks apart. When you have wooden furniture or floor boards they can give similar results to a water leak. There is also wet odor from the wood after it absorbs water.

Falling off ceilings:

If the roof is defective and water seeps inside the ceiling crack off risking harm to people living under that roof. According to water leak reports in Sydney defective roof and clogged rain drains are the main cause of ceiling plaster falling off. Not to mention slowly the water seeps down to the walls.

Property devaluation:

This is not a direct damage to the property however according to water ingress reports properties which have water leaks and water ingress lose their resale value. All of the above mentioned points are a huge blow to one’s pocket and it is important that you identify cause of the water ingress and get it fixed. Hydromedial Consulting Group can help you in this regard by offering you services from identifying the source of water leak using forensic sciences to giving solutions and fixing the problem. Hydromedial Consulting Group also offers services for hereditary restoration, strata management and is a reliable name in the business. water-leak
